Available Thicknesses
Water is heavy, and the deeper your tank, the higher the pressure. Selecting the correct glass thickness is the most critical step to preventing bowing, leaks, and catastrophic failure.
1/8″ Thick
A thin, lightweight option. Ideal only for small desktop nano tanks (under 10 gallons), custom sump baffles, or glass canopy lids.
1/4″ Thick
The industry standard. Reliable for mid-sized home aquariums (up to roughly 55 gallons) and larger custom sump filtration chambers.
3/8″ Thick
A heavy-duty option favored for large display tanks (75-125 gallons) with deeper water columns that demand extra structural rigidity.
1/2″ Thick
Maximum thickness. Strictly required for massive 150+ gallon builds, rimless aquariums, and deep commercial display tanks.
Available Glass Edges
Flat Polished Edge
A perfectly flat, machine-polished edge. Essential for aquarium construction, this smooth finish provides the ideal surface area for structural silicone adhesion, ensuring a safe, leak-proof, and seamless corner joint.
Beveled Edge
A decorative angled cut along the perimeter. While not used for structural silicone joints holding water pressure, a beveled edge adds a stunning, elegant aesthetic to standalone aquarium lids or top viewing covers.
Extra Options & Customizations
Plumbing an aquarium correctly is essential. We provide precision drilled holes and edge cutouts so your glass is fully prepared for bulkheads and overflow boxes.
Precision CNC Fabrication
Important Note: If you are upgrading to a tempered glass panel for maximum strength, it cannot be cut or drilled after production. All plumbing holes and overflow cutouts must be mapped out beforehand.
Precision drilled openings to securely install PVC bulkheads, closed-loop returns, or sump drain lines.
Smoothly curved corners, often required for custom tank lids or matching unique, bow-front architectural stands.
Custom edge-notching perfectly designed to accommodate hang-on-back filters or interior glass overflow boxes.
How To Measure For An Aquarium
When holding hundreds of pounds of water, precision is critical. Follow these guidelines to ensure your panels fit together perfectly for a waterproof seal.
Account for the Overlap
When measuring side panels, remember that they usually sit *on top* of the bottom pane and are flanked by the front/back panes. Deduct glass thickness accordingly.
Deduct for Seams
You must leave a 1/16″ to 1/8″ gap between glass panels. Glass shouldn’t touch glass; the gap is needed to inject the structural silicone.
Use a Metal Tape
Never use flexible cloth tapes. Ensure your rigid metal tape is held perfectly straight to avoid uneven cuts that could compromise the tank’s integrity.
Submit in Inches
To ensure a streamlined, error-free manufacturing process across our USA facilities, please submit all final dimensions in standard inches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need tempered glass for an aquarium?
While many smaller tanks use standard annealed glass, tempered glass is highly recommended for the bottom panel of larger tanks (over 55 gallons) because it handles the immense downward water pressure without cracking. Just remember, a tempered pane cannot be drilled later for bulkheads!
Does the edge type matter for silicone adhesion?
Yes. If you are building a tank, you must choose a Flat Polished edge. A flat surface provides the maximum area for the aquarium-safe silicone to grab onto, creating the strongest, leak-proof structural bond possible.
Can I drill the glass myself for plumbing?
If you order standard annealed glass, yes, you can carefully drill it with a diamond hole saw. However, if you order tempered safety glass, attempting to drill it will cause the entire panel to shatter instantly. We highly recommend letting our CNC machines pre-drill your bulkhead holes.
How thick should my aquarium glass be?
Glass thickness depends primarily on the *height* (depth) of your water column, not just total gallons. A shallow, long frag tank can use thinner glass than a tall, deep display tank. Generally, 1/4″ is used up to 18″ deep, 3/8″ for up to 24″ deep, and 1/2″ for deeper or rimless applications.
What is the turnaround time?
Most custom aquarium glass orders are manufactured, precision-cut, and shipped within 9–11 business days.
Customer Reviews
“Used the 1/2-inch glass to build a custom 150-gallon reef tank. The flat polished edges were flawless and made laying the structural silicone incredibly easy.”
– Sarah K.
“Ordered a replacement back panel after my old one cracked. Had GMP pre-drill the dual overflow holes and they lined up absolutely perfectly with my bulkheads.”

Custom Aquarium Glass: Build, Repair, and Display
Whether you are a seasoned aquarist designing a custom coral reef system or a hobbyist repairing a cracked freshwater setup, the quality of your glass is the most critical element of your tank. Water is incredibly heavy, and your setup requires precision-cut, high-strength materials to prevent disastrous leaks or structural failure.
We supply premium, heavy-duty aquarium glass tailored to your exact specifications. Manufactured and securely shipped right here in the USA, our exact-fit panels give you the ultimate foundation for your underwater ecosystem.
Building with the Right Fish Tank Glass
Standard window glass is simply not engineered to handle the constant, outward hydrostatic pressure of a large body of water. When ordering replacement panes or building a DIY tank from scratch, it is essential to use dedicated fish tank glass in the correct thickness for your water volume.
Our custom cutting process ensures your panels align flawlessly. Exact dimensions are vital for creating tight, waterproof silicone seams that will hold up over decades of continuous use.
Seamless Integration: The Aquarium Wall
For high-end residential homes and commercial waiting rooms, standalone tanks are often replaced by striking architectural installations. Building a custom aquarium wall creates a breathtaking, living piece of art that blends seamlessly into the structure of the room.
Because these in-wall setups often hold hundreds of gallons of water and are difficult to access once installed, using premium, flawless custom-cut glass panels is absolutely essential for long-term reliability and high-definition viewing.
When to Use a Tempered Glass Aquarium Panel
For massive tank builds or commercial displays, maximizing strength is your top priority. While thick, standard annealed glass is common for smaller tanks, upgrading to a tempered glass aquarium bottom or side panel is highly recommended for larger volumes.
Through a specialized rapid heating and cooling manufacturing process, tempered glass is engineered to be up to five times stronger than standard glass. This makes it incredibly resistant to the immense bowing pressure of deep water, giving you complete peace of mind that your aquatic investment is structurally sound.
Note: Tempered glass cannot be drilled or cut after manufacturing. If you are planning bulkheads for plumbing or overflow boxes, you must provide your exact hole dimensions so we can drill them before the tempering process.
